Remove a PDF password

Tired of typing the password every time you open a payslip, bank statement or bill? Save a copy that opens directly. It also removes restrictions that stop you printing or copying text.

Your files stay on your device: no uploads, no sign-up.

How to remove the password

  1. Open the protected PDF.
  2. If it asks for a password to open, type it. If the file opens but can’t be printed or copied, you don’t need to type anything.
  3. Press Remove password and download: the new copy opens without a password or restrictions.

Only use this tool for your own documents or ones you are entitled to use.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work if I don’t know the password?

If the PDF needs a password to open, you have to know it: the tool doesn’t guess it. If the PDF opens but has print, copy or edit restrictions, these are removed without a password.

Is the file uploaded to a server?

No: unlocking happens in your browser, with an engine that is downloaded the first time (about 1 MB).
