Compress PDF

Reduce the size of PDFs to send them by email or upload them to portals with an MB limit (job applications, universities, online forms).

Your files stay on your device: no uploads, no sign-up.

How to compress a PDF

  1. Open one or more PDFs.
  2. Choose the level: Recommended is fine in almost all cases; choose Strong for very tight limits.
  3. For text-only documents tick Convert to black and white: the file becomes even lighter.
  4. Press Compress: you see straight away how much smaller it is. With several files you get one ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the text no longer selectable?

To reduce the size a lot, pages are turned into optimised images. If you need searchable text, run OCR after compressing.

My PDF doesn’t get smaller, why?

If the PDF is already light (for example plain text exported from Word), compressing it doesn’t make it smaller: the tool tells you and doesn’t download anything.
