OCR: text from scans

A scanned PDF is just pictures: you can’t search it or copy the text. OCR recognises the words and adds them to the PDF invisibly, so you can search, select and copy.

Your files stay on your device: no uploads, no sign-up.

How to use OCR

  1. Open the scanned PDF.
  2. Choose the language of the document and, if you like, which pages.
  3. Press Recognise text: then download the searchable PDF or copy the text.

Frequently asked questions

Is the document sent to a server?

No: recognition happens on your device. The first time, the browser downloads the OCR engine (about 6 MB), then keeps it.

How accurate is it?

With clear scans at a good resolution it is very accurate. Handwriting is not recognised reliably.
